BO: The Secret of Steel
Rated 4.5 / 5 stars June 17, 2010
Excellent!
This game has been dominating about 90% of my time on the internet recently, and there's a good reason for that: It rocks my goddamn face off.
Things start out simple enough, and in the opening levels I basically just found myself walking from left to right, tapping space repeatedly. The difficulty slowly starts to ramp up though, and by the end I has having a hell of a tough time. The combat system is has a surprising amount of depth, considering it's all done with one button.
There's more to this than just the fighting, though. The graphics are really well drawn/animated, with a great sense of style, and the score is epic. Sound effects are also impressive.
As far as the "intriguing storyline," though, there's not much to talk about. Basically, the plot is, "This barbarian fellow wants to find the secret of steel. Now kill some guys." I'll admit, I never made it to the end (can't get past level 18) so maybe the conclusion's is incredibly dramatic and inspiring, but I doubt it.
Bare-bones story aside, this is still a really fucking fun (if extremely hard) game, and incredibly addictive. It's also pretty long, so I suggest you have a lot of free time if you're gonna play, and don't try to finish it in one sitting.
9/10, absolutely awesome. Hazel-grouse and co., you rock.

Pretentious, buggy, and not very good.
The idea of having to search around in the darkness for platforms and levers makes for an interesting concept, but I don't feel this game quite pulled it off. The controls aren't exactly what I'd call fantastic, it's buggy at points, and the level design's just really weak. On a couple of levels there are multiple switches you can pull, one of which you need to use to open a doorway or whatever, while the others just kill you. There's no real way to tell the difference, so it's just a pain in the ass. The spikes all over the damn place don't really help the situation much. Maybe the game's ending somehow makes up for all this, but I got too frustrated and bored to keep playing.
As much as I disliked the game, the idea really is cool, and I hope you try at it again sometime when your skills have improved. As it is, though, I just can't get into it.
Better luck next time.

Pretty standard.
Of all the point-and-click-death games I've played, this one is easily the least entertaining. The drawings were good, but the animation had too few frames and in the last scene, some of the movement looked just plain awkward.
The music was okay, a little bland and repetetive, but it fits well enough.
As for the cut-scenes... they were boring. Really boring. The rest of the game has animation, why not add a little to the cut-scenes, instead of showing pictures of the guy for 10 seconds each?
Here's hoping the sequel is better.

Well...
Nothing happens! It's just a brief bit of violence. At least the animation is smooth.

Your animation is so fluid, your water effects are so real, and your imagination is terrific. The story doesn't have much, or really any depth, though, so I'm glad to hear that you'll be improving in that area in later movies. Expertly done, probably one of the best things on Newgrounds.

Alright...
You need to fix the play button. I pressed it 12 times before it actually worked, which is to say, not good. The animation was pretty fluid for the most part, but I think you could have done better than a stick man.
